Sri Lanka identified as a soft target for cyber criminals

Sri Lanka has been identified as a soft target for the cyber criminals to carry out their cyber crimes and online internet hacking activities.

According to the 21st edition of Microsoft’s Security Intelligence Report, it has been revealed that there is an increase in the usage of Crypto Currency software in Sri Lanka since recently which cyber criminals employ to earn illegal profits using different online international trading crypto currencies and coins such as Bitcoin.

Some foreign nationals living in Sri Lanka have been discovered defrauding millions of rupees via the internet from different types of accounts of people in different countries for many months, according to Police investigation results. Police stated that close to 40 foreign nationals residing in Sri Lanka have been already arrested for carrying out these cyber crimes.

Implementing tough laws by the Government to prevent these types of cyber crimes from happening in the future, enact laws to prevent Sri Lanka from becoming a safe haven for cyber criminals to carry out online financial crimes is crucial in order to protect the people of the country, the police emphasized.
